Passion's Dance - Music for Slow Lovemaking

In 1992, I was deeply involved in the exploration and practice of Tantra. I went on to teach and lead groups for the next 14 years. My teaching evolved from my private practice of eventually 30 years in healing sexual energy. At that time, I had succumbed to an illness that took 20 years from which to recover and I did not get to finish the album. I left L.A. and headed north to heal and, basically, to start over. When I began teaching in the SF Bay Area, I used the rough incomplete mixes in all my groups with great success. It was a project that was incomplete and I am happy to have recently finished and mixed it. The pieces are varied: rhythmic, lyrical, drone-like, meditative, and romantic.

I was co-chief engineer at Crystal Studios in L.A. at the time, along with my friend, Andrew Berliner. I built the post production/synth studio (K) there where I recorded this album. I was also a session musician and used to trade services with other musicians such as Wah Wah Watson, Brandon Fields, and Leonice Shinneman who appear on this album.

Review by Lee Underwood

-Former West Coast editor of Downbeat Magazine, musician, author, poet. Site: www.leeunderwood.net

"A wonderful work.
Peaceful. Passionate. Loving. Beautiful, and aesthetically radiant. These are the words that spring immediately to mind after listening to "Passion’s Dance” a number of times.
I am deeply moved by the way Kevin sustains the intimate, lyrical mood throughout the album. All of the compositions are smooth, yet varied. Languorous and sensual without being cloying. Drifting and often dreamlike, with technical grace and deftly crafted multi-dimensional structures.
His soprano saxophone melodies are exquisitely tender, and his sustained beds of synthesizer chords give weight and substance to the textures. His harmonies and rhythms add breadth and beauty to each composition’s scope. Kevin is a fine instrumentalist and a superb composer.
Five compositions include the Indian-oriented percussion work of Leonice Shinneman; pianist Tim Clark; alto saxophonist Brandon Fields: or guitarist Wah Wah Watson, as well as his own extraordinary soprano saxophone melodies and synthesizer textures. These five multi-instrumental compositions give weight, depth, and scope to the sustained intimacy of the album.
The simplified instrumentation of the final four pieces, primarily featuring Kevin on soprano sax, synthesizer and electric piano are among my favorite performances on the album. As well, his multi-instrumental performances throughout the whole of the CD are most impressive — not only soprano saxophone, but tenor saxophone, bass, Electronic Woodwind Instrument, alto flute, keyboard, small bells, and synth percussion.
On the whole, ”Passion’s Dance” is an exquisite album."
